florida street, buenos aires, argentina 1950-1960.i went to the buenos aires photo exhibition held at palais de glace today. i wasn't impressed.
however, i was luckily introduced to sameer makarius' work.
he is a visual artist and photographer born in 1924 in el cairo, egypt, but lived in germany and hungary as well, where he finished his education. in 1953 he moved to buenos aires and found a unique way of portraying the city and its people.
i really liked his vintage portraits. too bad i can only find really small pictures of his work on the net. i'm surprised none of my photography teachers ever told me about him.
the guy who was in charge of the sameer makarius' stand was very literate and polite. or at least he knew a lot of what he was saying because he made sure i stayed at his stand for quite a while.
we then secretely acknowledged him with my friends and hoped we would grow knowleadgeable and cultivated.
